CHARITIES UPDATE

The 2025 Charities

  • All Star Children’s Foundation
  • The Food Bank of Manatee County

There has been some interest in touring All Star Children’s Foundation campus at 3300 17th Street, which is one of our charities this year. Stephen Fancher, Chief Advancement Officer, at the foundation has graciously offered us a tour on August 28th at 10:30.  Those who have attended the tour have been impressed by their enthusiasm and innovative treatment offered. If you are interested, please let Carol Fink know (305-439-1892 or wccharities@welcomeclubsm.com

TREASURER'S MESSAGE FOR MEMBERS

Dear Welcome Club Members,

Greetings from your friendly neighborhood Treasurer! This month, I’m swapping my Presidential hat for my Treasurer hat—don’t worry, I promise to keep it stylish! As a former bean counter (yes, that’s a real job, not just a hobby for math enthusiasts), I’ll do my best to sprinkle some humor into this financial update because who said numbers have to be boring?

So, where do we as a club stand financially? Drumroll, please… Our financial health is looking good! However, we do have ongoing concerns about our declining membership and the ever-increasing costs of luncheons, venues, and events. If only we could charge admission for our laughter, right?

Now, let’s break down the dues, which are quite a steal at $35 a year! These dues help cover several essential expenses, including:

- Honorariums for our fabulous luncheon speakers

- Annual software fees for Quicken (the accounting program, not the instant oatmeal) and Wild Apricot for our website and event registrations. No, we don’t serve apricots at our events.

- Our trusty Zoho email application for the Executive Board and Committee Chairs—because “reply all” is a skill everyone needs.

- Liability insurance to keep our officers safe from any spontaneous dance-offs.

- Annual State Filing fees—who knew paperwork could be so thrilling?

As of today, we have 211 active members, which is fantastic! Now, let’s talk numbers. As of the end of June 2025, here’s how our bank accounts are looking:

- Checking account: $12,620.23

- Savings account: $25,001.26

We must keep a minimum balance of $7,500 in our accounts. Think of it as our financial safety net—kind of like a trampoline for our club funds! Plus, we’re required in the Welcome Club bylaws to keep an additional $3,500 in reserves, just in case we want to plan the next big event or need to cover those surprise expenses (like a sudden craving for cupcakes at a meeting).

Did you know The Welcome Club isn’t a nonprofit organization, but we do support 2-4 charities each year. So far in 2025, we’ve collected $846 for our charities that hasn't been previously disbursed, and we’re required to keep at least $500 in the charity account. We love giving back, and our members are incredibly generous throughout the year with donations, goods, and volunteer time.

While luncheons and events are meant to cover their costs (and sometimes even our credit card processing fees), there are instances when we’ve made exceptions. For example, we subsidize those fancy luncheons at Bird Key Yacht Club and the “Name That Tune” event (which, by the way, was a lot of fun!). As a special treat, instead of gifts for our outgoing board members in 2024, we voted to donate $500 to our charities—because giving back is what we do best!

We believe in being good stewards of our funds while anticipating future needs—after all, we want to keep the good times rolling!

Thank you for being a part of our wonderful Welcome Club family. Let’s keep the laughter and camaraderie going strong!

Warm regards (and a dash of humor),

Pamela Modisett,

Welcome Club Treasurer and President

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Classy Closet Committee, Welcome Club Members, and Volunteers:

As the President of the Welcome Club, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your invaluable contributions to our recent Classy Closet event.

A special thank you goes to the Classy Closet Committee for your hard work and dedication in organizing such a phenomenal event. To all the members who generously donated items, your kindness and support made a significant impact. I also want to recognize the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Finally, to the 88 members who attended the luncheon and purchased items, your participation was crucial in making this event a resounding success. Together, we raised approximately $1,500 for the two charities supported by the Welcome Club, which will undoubtedly make a difference in our community.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your efforts and support are deeply appreciated, and I look forward to continuing our work together.

Pamela Modisett, President
Welcome Club of Sarasota / Manatee
