CHARITIES UPDATE

The 2025 Charities

  • All Star Children’s Foundation
  • The Food Bank of Manatee County

    Charities Named for 2026

The charity committee convened on October 1st. Present were Jane Hussar, Nancy Menard, Karen Doggett, Sylvia Sanchez and myself.  Janet Hough and Rose Marie Hartley were absent. We discussed over 20 charities, and decided to check out newer, smaller charities that might not have as much support as the well known charities, but had a lot to offer.

Harbor 58 started in 2022 and it provides foster youth who age out of system with mentors, financial classes, and in 2024 they started a pilot program and rented a house for a small group of young adults and provided resident coaches. Through mentorship, life, skills, training, and daily support they witnessed firsthand how guidance, consistency, and community can transform lives. We are excited that the construction will shortly be started on a permanent housing compound design specifically for youth transitioning how to foster care.

The second choice of charities we are recommending is Donte’s Den.  This organization is in Manatee County. Their mission is to provide quality care for canine companions who have been separated from their owners due to illness, death, injury, or abandonment. One of the most special aspects of this service is their unwavering support of the military. When members are called to active duty and can’t care for their dogs, Donte‘s den offers a safe haven, free of charge, keeping these beloved companions, healthy, and loved until their families return home.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Members of The Welcome Club of Sarasota and Manatee:

As we approach the end of the year, it’s hard to believe that nearly a year has passed since my journey as your Welcome Club president began. They say time flies when you’re having fun, and 2025 has certainly proven that true! It has been a joyous experience, and I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside such a dedicated Board of Directors, whose energy and enthusiasm are truly inspiring. Together, we share a genuine love for our club.

Every month, I eagerly anticipate our lively lunches filled with engaging programs and the company of so many cherished friends. I have enjoyed participating in as many Welcome Club events as my calendar allows—what could be better than that?

As we look ahead to January, I am excited to continue my role as president for another term, with Nancy Allan serving as First Vice President and Lois Domonico as Second Vice President, both returning for a second year. Nancy Flaherty will serve as Recording Secretary, and Cheryl Wyatt will serve as our Treasurer, completing our executive committee. I know that the entire board and our over 200 members join me in wishing them great success, and we all look forward to a year filled with fun and friendship in 2026.

Reflecting on this past year, we have achieved so much together. We’ve updated our bylaws and have made strides toward continuous improvement, ensuring that our operations run smoothly while maintaining the warmth and closeness that defines our club. We’ve celebrated with parties and outings, increased participation in our Special Interest Groups, and welcomed steady growth in our membership. Clearly, we must be doing something right!

When I took on this role, I was unaware of the deep commitment we all share in excellence. The women in our Executive Committee and those serving as chairs, coordinators, or committee members consistently strive to give their best, enabling us to proudly call ourselves a phenomenal organization. We are warm, caring, and fun-loving—a true force to be reckoned with.

I am deeply grateful for the support I have received throughout my term. The members of the Executive Committee and the Board have been my problem solvers, idea gurus, and creative geniuses. Our club is filled with remarkable talent, and I am continually amazed by how willingly our members share their gifts.

Most importantly, I want to thank each of you. You have the choice to belong to any organization in our community, and you chose us. Your enthusiasm is infectious, and it fills me with joy to see you interacting and connecting with one another.

Here’s to a bright and exciting new year ahead!  Wishing you a Wonderful Holiday Season and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!

Pamela Modisett, President
